Photos of Halychyna / Eastern
Galicia
Here is a small sample of photos I've taken
in Ukraine. The first set of pictures is of Lviv (Lwów),
the largest city in western Ukraine. It is also the home of the Central
State Historical Archives and Lviv Oblast Archives. Anyone researching
Halychyna/Eastern Galician roots on-site will undoubtedly spend a lot of time in
Lviv. And it's certainly one of the most charming cities you'll ever
visit!
While researching in Ukraine, I always visit my ancestral
villages. My maternal family comes from both villages Cheremoshnia (Czeremosznia)
and Ushnia (Usznia). These neighboring villages
belonged to the parish of Bilyi Kamin (Biały Kamień),
which is located in the district of Zolochiv (Złoczów).
There is nothing like walking through the villages of your ancestors, praying in
their churches and paying respect in their cemeteries. In smaller
villages, you will more than likely find distant relatives....if you research
hard enough!!
